Mr. John Supports Habitat For Humanity With On-Site Portable Restrooms, Service For Volunteers

Mr. John, which serves the New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia markets with portable sanitation solutions, today announced it has donated more than $200,000 in portable restrooms to Habitat for Humanity projects in the past two years, as part of a more than decade-long commitment to supporting the effort to build affordable, sustainable housing for families across the region.

In Paterson, NJ, Mr. John has provided portable restrooms for 15 years, in support of their effort to revitalize neighborhoods. In 2017 alone, Mr. John donated $16,000 worth of units and service to the Paterson chapter. The commitment was on display during a recent site visit to a Paterson Habitat project.

When volunteers head out to a Habitat for Humanity site to build a home for a deserving family, there’s one piece of the puzzle that could stop the project in its tracks: lack of access to restroom facilities.

“We get almost 4,000 volunteers a year at our sites. If we didn’t have Mr. John donating these facilities, our volunteers would have to spend time driving to and from our offices to use the bathroom, taking valuable time away from the project,” said Gina Damiano, Corporate Development Officer for Paterson Habitat. “Not having to spend money renting porta-pottties also allows us to put that money directly into every home we build.”

Not only is it convenient, but Habitat is also required to provide on-site restroom facilities to licensed subcontractors it hires for electrical, plumbing and other trade work.

It’s a commitment Mr. John President Gary Weiner says he intends on continuing and expanding.

“You need to find ways to give back to the community and it just seemed logical to support Habitat for Humanity across our service area,” said Weiner. “Some Habitat Volunteers are also construction workers, which is a major industry we serve. So it just makes sense to offer up this service. It makes a substantial impact in transforming these neighborhoods.”
